Tips and tricks
Here are some tips and tricks for an excellent South American experience, updated as we go along.
When in Quito and in need of a taxi or a driver, look for Leonardo Oña Moreno – cell phone 084-171264, e-mail leonardoona51@hotmail.com. He is punctual, a good driver and a dedicated guide – he drove us up the Cotopaxi volcano up to 4500m and then climbed with us up to 5000m! Expect reasonable prices for drives outside of Quito ($120-130 for Cotopaxi or Otavalo). Caution: some spanish is needed.
When in Galapagos (specifically, Puerto Ayora) and looking for a snorkeling cruise around Santa Cruz, head down to the marina and ask about Lucio from the boat Jazmin. Expect great service and friendly guides and a price of around $25 for a 3-4 hour cruise.

Ecuadorean time is not time as we understand it. An hour means from an hour to three hours, and so forth…quite annoying. Traveler be warned, patience here is truly a virtue. Lets hope the rest of S. America fares better regarding schedules and time related promises and meetings and such.
